The AXS Rookie of the year award is names in honor of Scott Hurne Jr., a longtime friend and teammate of the tournament director. Scott had taken some time away from the game and was just returning full time to bowling in August 2016. After attending the first event of that season, and making the cut in his first event, Scott was excited for what the season held. Unfortunately, tragedy struck the very next day. Without hesitation, the award was named in his honor, as he would have definitely made a run at the inaugural season award.
